Babadok Rebenta! is a weekly radio magazine produced by Search for Common Ground (SFCG) trained Timorese youth radio presenters “for youth, by youth, and about youth. The contents derives from a Youth Forum which was hel in August 2010” , the topics that the creators explored in the series of 24 episodes ilustrate the breadth of young people concerns in Timor Leste; they also highlighted the thoughtfulness of the contry young citizens. The topics are a fascinating mirror of the universality of some issues -- youth and education, youth and anti-corruption, youth and drugs, youth and pornography, and so forth. Other topics zero in on questions that result from the struggle and conflict of Timor-Leste's recent history such the role of youth in peace building, youth and National unity, etc. The shows are being broadcast every Saturday on Radio Timor-Leste (RTL) and 15 community radio stations nationwide. After every radio magazine show, SFCG-trained youth radio presenters facilitate hour-long talk shows on the themes and issues presented during the pre-produced show. This allows for local, solutions-oriented discussions, in local languages.
Search for Common Ground (SFCG; www.sfcg.org) is an international, non-governmental organization whose mission is to change the way the world deals with conflict, away from adversarial approaches toward cooperative solutions. SFCG uses a multi-faceted approach, employing media initiatives and working with local partners in government and civil society, to find culturally appropriate means to strengthen societies' capacity to deal with conflicts constructively: to understand the differences and act on the commonalities. SFCG Begin its program in Timor Leste in April 2010 by implementing a Youth Radio for Peace Building (RFP-TL) project.
