The plan to build the November 12 Massacre monument is just that, as nothing has come out of it and with the mandate of the fourth constitutional government at its end, it may remain an empty promise of the outgoing Government.
Rogério Castro da Cruz, Vice-President for the November 12 Committee said they were waiting on Government to implement this plan.
“Preparations should have started in 2011, but nothing has happened and we have only started putting up the signs,” said da Vice-President Cruz in Balide, Dili.
According to him, the design for the monument has already been approved but it was up to the Ministry of Infrastructure to implement this process.
Meanwhile Member of Parliament Joaquim Amaral said parliament approved the funds in 2011.
“Why hasn’t this monument been built, well we haven’t received any information from the November 12 Committee, maybe it’s an addition to their struggle for recognition, but there should be or at least a monument to honour the Loriko Aswain (clandestine youth heroes) something must be built,” said the MP.
