FALINTIL Widows and Orphans (Faluk no Oan Kiak), FOK, urged political parties to respect the trust voters put on them when voting during the recent parliamentary elections.
“Show your political maturity by your actions and attitudes and you will have the people’s trust,” said FOK-FALINTIL spokesperson, Ivana Belo during a press conference at the Veteran’s Headquarters in Taibesi, Dili.
The FOK-FALINTIL spokesperson asked the President of the Republic, Taur Matan Ruak, to use whatever power bestowed upon him by the Constitution to demand political leaders from 1975 and the four parties in Parliament, nurture national consensus to address the nation’s needs.
They also asked the General Commander of the National Police (PNTL), Superintendent Longuinhos Monteiro, to ensure the officer who shot dead a student in Hera after the CNRT conference (15/7), be held accountable for his actions.
“We ask mutual respect between old and new generations, especially the younger respect our historical leaders who are still alive, and also respect the history of our fight for independence,” Spokesperson Belo said.
CNRT Member of Parliament (MP) Virginia Ana Belo said her party’s President had already clarified the question of the upheavals after the CNRT conference.
“We will comment no further as the President of our political party has already spoken on this matter,” said the MP.
