The new Warsila generator for the Betano south coast power plant is due to arrive by the end of June 2012, but the construction of the facility has not even reached the 50 per cent completion phase.
“It will still take some time to be completed and to prepare the necessary conditions so the facility can house the generator,” said the President of Commission G, Member of Parliament (MP) Pedro Martires da Costa (05/06) at the National Parliament, Dili.
He added, even though construction to the generator site is not yet complete, the government will still prepare a temporary site to house the generator.
Meanwhile a member of the parliamentary delegation that travelled to Italy to inspect the generator, MP Francisco de Araujo said the eight Warsila generators purchased by the government are of top quality and brand new.
“Last month we went there [Italy] and checked that everything was new and will meet the needs of the people,” said MP de Araujo.
The MP added the eight generators already departed Italy and are scheduled to arrive in Timor by the end of June.
“Each generator will generate up to 28 megawatts,” he said also.
