Rehabilitation works for the Fatuhada road, which began last year, and are expected to finish before the end of 2012.
“Works actually concluded two months ago however due to the recent landslides they had to be redone. I cannot say exactly to the month but I am very sure the rehabilitation works will finish by the end of this year,” said José Augusto, Roads Engineer at the Ministry of Infrastructure Secretariat of State for Public Works (SEOP) from his office in Mandarin, Dili.
He said the SEOP worked together on this project with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
“The rehabilitation is being funded by our Government with JICA experts providing technical assistance,” he said.
The rehabilitation or building of new roads for the whole country is the responsibility of SEOP, which using funds allocated for this purpose by Parliament every year.
“I think this is great and I am pleased because the roads are long due for rehabilitation,” said MP Joaquim Amaral.
The MP suggested signage be put up informing people on the length of the works and the expected completion date for all projects.
Government should put up signs, to explain what the project was about, the expected date f completion and who were the stakeholders, so everyone knows,” said the MP.
