One TL Scholarship Student Dies in Portugal

Members of National Parliament suggest the government give support to the family of a scholarship student who died while studying in Portugal. Members of Parliament have suggested the government support the family of the deceased scholarship student Elidio dos Reis, who died in Portugal, to help pay for his corpse to come back to Timor. 

President of Commission F (for education, health, veterans and gender equality), MP Virgilio da Costa said the state had the obligation to facilitate bringing the corpse back to Timor-Leste based on traditional customs.

“The important thing is the government should give support to the family in order to bring the corpse back to Timor,” said the President of Commission F, Virgillio da Costa Hornai, (03/04), in the National Parliament.

Novel Da Paz Students Fight Over Access To Exam Materials

Students at Novel da Paz School fought over a lack of exam materials. The students of Novel da Paz Junior Secondary School had a fight because some students did not get materials for exam that a teacher provided.

Third grade student Margarida Correia was sad because on the first day of the exam period for all schools, everyone should be quiet while they sit exams but in their school a problem occurred between students.

Japanese Government Gives Four Scholarships To Timorese

Four Timorese students will go to Japan to either study engineering or to study at the Defence Academy on a scholarship supported by the Japanese government. The Japanese government has given four scholarships to Timorese people so they can study in Japan for five years.

The four Timorese people are composed of two members of the Defence Force of Timor-Leste (F-FDTL), one from the Ministry of Justice and another from the National University of Timor-Leste (UNTL).

FA: Trained Teachers will be able to improve student literacy

Basic Education teachers attending literacy training provided by the Alola Foundation. According to the Executive Director of the Alola Foundation, Teresa Alita Verdial, teacher training is very important because only with adequate training teachers will be able to increase the literacy of students.

The Alola Foundation (FA) through its education program launched a book entitled “A Book is a Window to the World” and Director Verdial said the book aims to increase the reading ability and knowledge of children about the world.
