The three buses purchased for use by the students of the Engineering Faculty of the National University of Timor Lorasa’e UNTL in 2011 are parked and not able to be used because it is part of an investigation by the Public Ministry.
“You can see the buses have been parked for so long, that they are not good anymore. The other two buses have just disappeared,” said UNTL Administrator Mateus Fernandes, last week from the UNTL Dili Campus.
Investigations being conducted by the Public Ministry, follow claims the three buses were purchased as new when in fact they were second-hand.
“We are damaging State property because it has been more than one year but this process is still ongoing,” said UNTL Administrator Fernandes.
The national university, since the investigation has bought two additional buses for engineering students, so they can attend classes at the Hera Campus.
“We have already received one bus and are waiting on the other one.”
Meantime the Vice President of the Commission F, Member National Parliament, Francisco Jeronimo urged the public ministry to process this case quicker.
“They should have purchased four vehicles rather than three. They spend money buying trucks. Then they bought buses that in the end were second-hand,” said MP Jeronimo.
TDW tried to confirm this issue with the Public Ministry, but was told by a staff member that the ministry was not able to provide information to the public regarding this case.
“We are not able to release any information to the public because it is confidential,” said the source.
