www.sepi.gov.tl is the new official website for the Secretary of State for the Promotion of Equality (SEPI), launched on the last days of the Government’s mandate with the objective of allowing greater access by Timorese and foreigners alike to SEPI’s policies for the promotion of gender equality currently implemented in Timor-Leste.
“Today we launched this website because it is important to raise awareness, disseminate and provide information to the public, both here and overseas, especially other women, on the situation of East Timorese women during the AMP mandate,” said Secretary of State for the Promotion of Equality, Idelta Rodrigues (26/07) at the ceremony for the launch of the website, at Hotel Timor, in Dili.
On the website are videos and other materials about the many activities SEPI carried out in Timor-Leste and overseas, related the promotion of gender equality. SEPI’s mission and vision are included as well as strategic plans and annual programs, including CEDAW related activities and the various speeches made during her mandate as the Secretary of State.
Representing the Prime Minister, Avelino Coelho, Secretary for State for Energy Policy said the website was not simply there for people to assess the progress SEPI had achieved during the last five years, but it was also provides an opportunity for people to comment on SEPI’s strategic plan.
“The website will provide a forum for everyone to follow, read and monitor SEPI’s activities during the 4th Constitutional Government,” said SE Coelho.
The Secretary of State congratulated SEPI on their efforts of the last five years and on the fact that the 2012-2017 mandate Timorese women represented 31 per cent of the National Parliament.
“This only goes to show Timorese women can also make decisions, think for themselves and for Timorese society,” said SE Coelho.
At the same time as launching the website, the Secretary of State also formalised the Gender Working Group to mainstream gender activities in all Ministries and Secretariats of State.
SEPI also awarded community radios with a certificate of acknowledgment for their work promoting gender equality in all thirteen Districts.
