The National Reconstruction Party of Timor (CNRT) opted for forging an alliance with the Democratic Party (PD) and the Frenti Mudansa Party (FM) to establish the fifth Constitutional Government for Timor-Leste 2012-2017.
“The reason why we chose to go with PD and Frente Mudansa to establish the fith government is because we already worked together during the Fourth Constitutional Government and these parties are loyal to our leader. Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao is a resistance figure who promoted national unity,” said Member of Parliament (MP) Pedro Martires da Costa (16/07), at the National Parliament, Dili.
He added the two parties’ also demonstrated loyalty to Xanana Gusmao by acknowledging their shortcomings during the five year in alliance with CNRT during the mandate of the Fourth Constitutional Government.
The decision was made following a conference of CNRT Party cadre that included the party coordinators from all 13 districts and militants held at the Dili Convention Centre in Dili held on 14 July 2012.
The CNRT MP said also the party chose not to go into an alliance with FRETILIN (securing 25 seats during the Parliamentary Elections) because language used by the leadership of FRETILIN during the campaigning period chocked many CNRT militants.
Meanwhile the leadership of PD Party also decided their party will ally itself to FRETILIN in establishing the Fifth Constitutional Government for Timor-Leste.
According to PD MR Adriano Joao, his party and its cadres already decided in a congress held at the Training Centre Joao Paulo II, in Comoro, Dili, to ally the party to CNRT.
“The Democratic Party already decided it will ally itself with CNRT and Frenti Mudansa to govern for the next five years,” said the MP.
Nonetheless the MP Joao added no official arrangements have been entered between the parties so far.
