Following the violent incidents of the last couple of days (15/17/07) in the capital Dili following the announcement by CNRT Party, who received the majority of votes during the Parliamentary Elections (07/07), to form an alliance with minority parties PD and Frenti Mudansa, rather than with main opposition party FRETILIN, resulted in over 60 damaged vehicles, the death of one youth and up to five seriously wounded police officers, the security in the capital Dili is calm and controlled.
“From our observation, generally the situation is back to normal with vehicles moving up and down, even though there are some people who are still afraid to leave their homes. But that is also normal,” said the Chief of the Criminal Investigation Services (SIC) PNTL, Superintendent Chief Calisto Gonzaga, (18/07), from his office Caicoli, Dili.
To those in the community who are traumatized with the recent events, Superintendent Gonzaga urges them to no longer be afraid because the police continues to maintain security and is on high alert.
Meanwhile according to observations from Member of Parliament (MP) Joaquim Amaral in regards to the overall situation in the capital Dili following the recent disturbances, he noted in general the situation is back to normal.
“The conditions are back to normal but what we are concerned with and lament is the violence that took place,” said the MP.
MP Amaral urged the police to maintain security and to carry on its duties with professionalism, in particular when responding to incidents.
