The Dili municipal court imposed a one-year suspended sentence to a man (accused) who hit his brother (victim) unconscious.

Dili municipal court imposed a one-year suspended sentence to a man (accused) who hit his brother (victim) unconscious.

According to the accusation read by the presiding judge;one morning the accused asked his brother to feed their pig while he was washing his clothes. The brother heard him but decided to only feed his pig after washing his clothes.
Suddenly, the accused called if his brother could not hear the pig crying but proceeded to hit in the back causing his to black out and fall to the ground.
The victim's mother reported the incident to the police as she considered the action a crime.
After reading the accusations, the presiding judge called for the accused to give his statement to the court, but he had nothing to say and agreed with the facts presented.
Then the presiding judge called for the victim to give his statement to the court and he said the accused had apologized and so he forgave the accused for his actions.
"My brother has apologized. He will not hit me anymore because I was passed out and my father got really scared about it,” said the victim.
Meanwhile, the presiding judge said the accused’s actions constituted a crime and agains Article 145 of the Pena Code that carried a corresponding sentence.
The public defender called on the court to impose a light sentence on the accuedas he recognized his fault and since the incident he has never again committed physical harm to the victim.
After hearing the declarations, the presiding judge decided to impose a one-year suspended sentence on the accused.
