Dili Municipality Court (TMD) conducted a trial of a simple offence against physical integrity case involving a mother-in-law (the accused) who hit her daughter-in-law (the victim) because she raised her voice at her.

According to the accusation of the Public Ministry read by the Presiding Judge, in February 2016, the victim had an altercation with her husband over some missing money out of the salary.
After shouting at her husband the victim went outside to prepare dinner. The accused confronted the victim telling her not to shout at her son because he was tired.
The victim paid no attention to the accused, but insults were shared. The accused in a fit of rage hit the victims back and pulled her hair.
After reading the accusations, the Presiding Judge called on the accused to give her statement. She told the court she attacked her daughter-in-law because she was very angry and to give her a lesson.
"I was angry with her as my daughter, I just wanted to teach her a lesson," she said to the court.
The victim on the other hand told the court she has since forgiven her mother-in-lay and that they are in good terms.
After hearing the statements, the court decided to impose an administrative sentence on the accused.
