Australian government through its defence cooperation program in Timor-Leste has provided peacekeeping operations training to members of Timorese F-FDTL.

The Chief of the F-FDTL, Colonel Falur Rate La’ek said it the training was very important to increase the knowledge of the armed forces on how to conduct adequate operations related to peacekeeping.
He added that the F-FDTL forces have already sent its members to serve in peacekeeping operations in Lebanon and in South Sudan.
Due to lack of adequate peacekeeping operations knowledge, service at the South Sudan mission has been halted.
“We did not have good preparation. But with this training we are building our knowledge," he said.
He added that during the training, Australian trainers shared their experience with peacekeeping forces including the expected prerequisites to take part in such missions.
He added that the training was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Defence from Timor-Leste, United Nations representatives and military attachés and partners from other nations based in Timor-Leste.
Colonel Mick Rozzoli from the Defence Forces from Australia, said this training served also as a reminder to Timor-Leste of its duty of care to help support peacekeeping operations around the world.
“We will provide training about the system and the regulations of peacekeeping operationsso that you can increase your knowledge of the issue,” he said.
