The representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Timor-Leste, Dr. Domingas Bernardo, revealed that according to the 2016 Timor-Leste Demographic and Health Survey, 38% of women and girls aged 15 to 49 in Lautém Municipality have experienced violence.

She said women and girls have been suffering physical, sexual, and emotional violence since 2016.

Charles Darwin University (CDU) is supporting the Secretary of State for Professional Training and Employment (SEFOPE) by facilitating English language courses and training for Timorese workers before they begin employment in Australia.

The Secretary of State of SEFOPE, Rogério Araújo Mendonça, said this support is being provided through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Australian Government, being implemented by CDU.

The Dili Municipality Authority has urged the government to issue regulations to control the practice of communities burying their dead relatives on private properties, to prevent public health risks.

The President of the Dili Municipality Authority, Gregorio Saldanha, said that to regulate cemeteries in the capital, both public and private, the government must establish proper rules.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Forestry (MAPPF), through the Secretary of State for Fisheries and the President of the Dili Municipal Authority, prepared a fish storage facility to assist fish sellers to sell fish at the Manleuana market, in the capital Dili.

The Director-General of Fisheries, Celestino da Cunha Barreto, said the new fish storage facility was established by the government to help fish sellers to sell fish in a safe and secure location.
